  • Home Learning

At Park Gate Primary School, we understand the importance of strong links between home and school to support children's ongoing progress. We believe that building positive habits around home learning supports children's journey through primary school and gets them ready for secondary school and beyond. Regular, bite-sized activities at home linked to reading, writing, and maths can help children build strong foundational skills that support long-term progress.

We ask that all children complete a few focused tasks each week to reinforce key classroom learning, improve confidence, and create good learning habits. We also combine this weekly expectation with a longer, creative project. This approach strikes the right balance, embedding core skills while encouraging curiosity, independence, and imagination. We believe that this approach to home learning gives children many different ways to engage with learning beyond the classroom through online platforms and creative projects.

    Our home learning expectation is:

    • Daily reading which can be recorded in reading records (Whole School)

    • A creative project outcome that will span a number of weeks (Year 1 - Year 6)

    • Daily spelling practise of no more than 5 minutes using the platform Spelling Shed (KS2) or Busy Things (KS1)

    • Daily timetables or number bond practise of no more than 5 minutes using the platform Times Table Rock Stars (KS2) Numbots (KS1)

We have some helpful guides for parents to help children access online homework platforms that we use.
