The school was opened in 1972 as Park Gate Junior School. In 1995 the school changed status from a junior school to a primary school, due to the growth in pupil numbers in the area. The school now has pupils aged 4–11 years of age. The school is able to accommodate 420 children in total, organised in 7 year groups of 2 classes.

The building has been extended on several occasions over the years and accommodation on the school site now includes:14 classes in the main building, a music and drama room a library and The Lodge – an additional room for meetings, teaching small groups and our Breakfast and After School Club.
The school is organised into 3 key stages; Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The Early Years Foundation Stage begins when your child is at nursery or pre-school and the curriculum continues throughout Year R. Further information regarding Early Years can be found through our curriculum link. Key Stage 1 includes Year 1 and Year 2 with children then moving to Key Stage 2 in Year 3 until they reach the end of Year 6. Further information regarding the curriculum taught at Park Gate can be found through our curriculum link.
We offer a range of clubs and activities in school. These may be run by a member of staff, a volunteer or sometimes a commercial company. Information is given to children each term about the clubs that will be available. Permission from parents must be received before a child can take part in an extra-curriculuar club. If the club is run by an outside agency there will be a charge made.
All pupils have the opportunity to learn an instrument at Park Gate Primary School. Hampshire Music Service, Listen2Me programme provides whole class tuition including; ukulele and keyboards. We also offer further whole class tuition through the Hampshire Music Service ‘Beyond the Beat’ Programme.
We also offer the opportunity from Year 3, to learn an instrument and be part of a rock band through Hampshire Music Service ‘Rock2theBeat’. Instruments include; electric and bass guitar, keyboard, drums and vocals. Parents sign up directly with Hampshire Music Service and pay monthly by direct debit.
Throughout the year children have the opportunity to take part in a range of visits that enhance the curriculum. These change each year but may include: local walks, museum or gallery visits, trips to historical sites such as Butser Farm, fieldwork locations and local animal parks such as Marwell Zoo and Finkley Down Farm.
We also have many visitors to school. Recently these have included authors such as Andy Stanton and Frank Cottrell, members of the local emergency services – along with their specialised vehicles, Young Shakespeare Theatre Company, members of local churches who support our RE curriculum and assemblies.
In Years 5 and 6 the children have the opportunity to take part in our residential visits. The children in Year 5 have visited Fairthorne Manor. In Year 6 children have been to Avon Tyrrell . This is an outward bounds centre where the children take part in a range of activities that might include kayaking, abseiling, archery, night hikes and many more.
The school office staff team hope to be able to help parents with any queries and concerns. The office opens each day at 8.20am and is staffed throughout the school day.
If you would like to talk to a member of the teaching staff, please ensure you enquire at the school office first and make a member of the office staff aware that you are in the school building.
There are times when the school office is very busy and we ask parents to be patient at these times.
If you would like to contact the school office please telephone 01489 575444 or email adminoffice@parkgate.hants.sch.uk
