Welcome to Reception!
At Park Gate we are proud to provide our children with a safe, nurturing environment where they can thrive as individuals. This is the platform for achieving our vision of success for all. Our Park Gate Values of Partnership, Achievement, Resilience, Kindness, Growth, Aspiration, Trust and Excellence guide our school community each and every day, ensuring that everyone can be successful.
Starting School
Starting school is an important time for children and parents. The Early Years team contact pre-schools to meet children in their surroundings as getting to know the children before they start school is an important part of our transition arrangements. We attend home visits and pre-schools, host stay and play sessions to allow time for you and your child to be familiar with Park Gate before you start in September.
Being School Ready
At Park Gate we understand the importance of a child’s first year at school and create a friendly, nurturing environment which allows each child to flourish. It is important that Parents speak to their children and prepare for them starting school and that children have the skills to start them off on their school learning journey. Early Years Learning
Our dedicated team strongly believe in an exciting, hands on and captivating curriculum that is responsive to the needs and interests of our cohort. The curriculum is carefully planned and learning through play is at the heart of our Early Years provision. Our skilled adults join in with the child’s play, moving their learning on in a friendly and stimulating way. Alongside this we have whole class and group sessions, to teach specific skills.
Your child will be participating in the reception baseline assessment (RBA) within the first 6 weeks of starting reception. Click on the link for more information at the assessment; Reception Baseline Assessment Information for Parents
Early Years Curriculum
At Park Gate our early years teaching is the foundation and building blocks for learning across the curriculum. Our ambitious early years curriculum is sequenced appropriately to ensure children’s knowledge and skills build on previous learning in a challenging and exciting way.
The educational programmes will be taught through a largely play-based curriculum, teaching new skills which is then embedded knowledge as the children enter into Key Stage 1. We provide carefully designed activities that encourage pupils to become independent, inquisitive and thoughtful learners.
